WITSML Requirements

Introduction

This document will explain what WITSML requirements are.

WITSML Server/Store Requirements

Corva does not provide a WITSML store for our data feed. Instead, we need access to the WITSML server or store from either the EDR provider or through the WITSML transfer from either the Mud Logger, MWD, Toolpusher, Company Man, etc.
Corva supports both WITSML versions 1.3 and 1.4

The recommended frequency is 1 second, but we can consume any frequency that you can provide. The main requirement is that it is a consistent feed at whichever frequency you send. Gaps in time will cause either a delay, insufficient capture of data, or degradation of our engineering apps.

We can also map to multiple time-based logs of different frequencies. For example:

  • General time (1 second )

  • MWD (5 second)

  • Pits (10 second)

  • Etc.

Corva is a real-time data solution; therefore, Corva does not backfill data. Any change in protocol must be sent to our 24-hour real-time ops center and communicated so we can take proactive measures.

For Corva to connect to your provider’s WITSML store, we require the following:

  • WITSML store URL

  • Credentials to log into the WITSML store

  • List of channels required by customer

We have a list of required channels that we need for Corva to run, but we can make custom templates based off your needs. Please see the next page for both required channels and any recommended optional channels.

Mnemonic Requirements

Please see below for the minimum required mnemonics to run Corva.

  • Bit depth

  • Hole depth

  • Block height

  • Hookload

  • Rotary torque

  • Weight on bit

  • Rate of penetration

  • Rotary RPM

  • Standpipe pressure

  • Differential pressure (for land operations)

  • Mud flow in

  • Mud flow out

Please see below for common additional mnemonics that add to Corva visualizations or engineering models.

  • Individual mud pump stroke ate & total strokes

  • Total mud pump stroke rate& total strokes

  • Mud density in

  • Active pit gain/loss & total volume

  • Mud pit & trip tank volume

  • Gamma ray

  • Gravity & magnetic tool face

  • MWD inclination

  • MWD annular pressure

  • MWD ECD

  • MWD vibration (Axial, Lateral, Torsional, Stick-Slip)

  • Total gas

  • Casing pressure

  • MPD backpressure

  • Choke pressure

  • Kill pressure

  • Riser/Booster pump flow in, stroke rate, and total strokes

  • Mnemonic UOM standards for corva

Corva can consume several sources and mnemonics and we have set a standard for the units of measurement that our system is able to easily digest. Please refer to the following for our standard UOM.
